For this part, we contributed to the paper-icon-theme package.

The first thing was creating a VM for compiling this package. Everything worked as expected without any problems.

We created an issue for it:

Then we followed the process to update the files, compiling and making two commits without any problem. We created an MR for that which was already merged.
